Choosing an Assisted Living
Deciding it is time to move can be very difficult; and deciding where to move might be an even bigger decision. You can use the Minnesota Assisted Living Report Card to help you make that decision by reviewing quality ratings and information about assisted living across the state.
When you find an assisted living that might be right for you, visit in-person, if you can, and discuss it with the assisted living staff and your family. Before you move to an assisted living, you will need to call Minnesota’s Senior LinkAge Line® at (800) 333-2433 to discuss your assisted living options. At the end of your call, they will issue you a verification code.
If you need help to learn more about the features and services offered at individual assisted livings, the Senior LinkAge Line can help with that too. You can also visit MinnesotaHelp.info® and the Office of the Ombudsman for Long-Term Care’s Facility Information webpage to review assisted living options as well as other types of housing and service options.
About Assisted Living
Assisted living is a licensed care setting where older adults and people with disabilities can receive care, supervision, meals and other services. Many assisted livings can also help with personal care, including help with dressing, personal hygiene, using the bathroom, bathing and taking medications. Some locations provide additional health-related services delivered by health professionals. Finally, some assisted livings offer specialized care and support for people with Alzheimer's disease or other memory loss conditions.
The cost for assisted living can vary greatly, depending on how much help a person needs and the services chosen.
